Vorbemerkung zur deutschen Übersetzung: Obwohl zu manchen Themen neue Literatur erschienen ist, wurden die Literaturhinweise nicht ergänzt. Die elektronischen Links wurden im November 2021 überprüft und wenn notwendig aktualisiert. Erfolglose Links wurden mit einem entsprechenden Vermerk belassen.

3. Träger, ihre Zusammensetzung sowie physikalische und chemische Stabilität

Dieser Abschnitt enthält neben der „klassischen” Literatur grundsätzliche und allgemeine Artikel, die die vorherrschenden Konservierungsprobleme ihrer Zeit behandelten. Die Materialien und ihre Zusammensetzungen, die für die Herstellung audiovisueller Träger verwendet wurden, waren sehr unterschiedlich, ebenso die Produktionsmethoden, die einen Einfluss auf die Stabilität haben. Die Ergebnisse dieser Artikel beziehen sich auf die untersuchten Materialien und haben daher begrenzte Gültigkeit.
