Scholars & Artists in Residence Program at NFSA (Australia)

Call for applications for 2014

Closing: midnight, Sunday 1 September 2013

Are you an academic, an artist, a performer or a professional working in the audiovisual area? The National Film and Sound Archive of Australia (NFSA) invites proposals from people who wish to conduct research into the national audiovisual collection.

The SAR Fellowship offers:

Facilitated access to the national collection of nearly two million items
Close collaboration with NFSA curatorial and technical experts
Access to the specialised research library
Onsite accommodation for non-Canberra based fellows
A fully equipped workspace in the NFSA residence in Canberra
Free admission to NFSA activities, such as Arc Cinema sessions and events

We expect that the research outcomes of the SAR Fellows will increase awareness about the NFSA throughout the scholarly, artistic and broader community, both nationally and internationally.

SAR Fellows will be required to produce the following outcomes:

A presentation to staff and invited guests
To have undertaken a significant piece of research for publication, presentation, performance or exhibition, either on the NFSA website or in another approved public platform
Research report and evaluation of residency
Additional events, presentations and further publication platforms can be negotiated.

Applications for SAR Fellowships are invited for periods of between four and eight weeks between 3 February and 18 December 2014. Preference will be given to those applicants who identify an unbroken research period and who present a fresh interpretation of the national audiovisual collection. It is desirable that the research align with the NFSA’s themes and activities, as outlined in the downloadable pdf below. One fellowship is reserved each year for creative or emerging artists, where suitable applications are received.

Applications close on Sunday 1 September 2013 and notifications will commence Friday 5 October.
