The new draft constitution

Because of other important business I was not able to come to Frankfurt. Now I have got the draft constitution dated 31 October 2011 and would like to comment.
I am since over 10 years member of the International IASA and some years later also member of the regional branch "Ländergruppe Deutschland/Deutschschweiz".
This regional branch consists of many people who are not interested in international affairs, are not able to communicate fluently in English sophisticated discussions, but are very happy to exchange their questions and problems with experts in local language. Experts are confronted with unusual problems not always common in their fields and so very lively meetings are held each year, last time earlier this month at Basel /Bale, Switzerland.
To insist that at least 50% of the members of the local branch have to be members of the international IASA would destroy the important contact with collectors and other interested non-professionals.
"Qui bono" would the old Romans ask. For whom would be the benefit of this silly "paragraph"?
Best regards Herfrid Kier

Dear Herfrid,

In the 1999 IASA constitution at least 50% of the members of a IASA Branch must be members of IASA. In the draft constitution which is now under consideration at least 50% of the members of a IASA Branch must be members of IASA. Whether you accept the new constitution, or reject it in favour of retaining the old, 50% of the members of a IASA Branch must be members of IASA.

In regards to this matter NOTHING HAS CHANGED. It was decided to leave it the same so as branches such as yours would not be affected.

Kind Regards
Kevin Bradley

So, in fact, the new constitution really affects only heretofore affiliated organisations of IASA, as this membership category is eliminated in the new constitution.
