Mid-Atlantic Regional Archives Conference (US), Fall 2014

Date:
16 Oct 2014 to 18 Oct 2014
Location:
Baltimore, Maryland, United States

Begun in 1972, MARAC is a volunteer, regional consortium of archivists who live and work in the states of New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Maryland, Delaware, Virginia, and West Virginia, and in the District of Columbia.

MARAC is returning to Baltimore this fall for the 7th time! Join us October 16-18, 2014 at the Grand Historic Venue, the former Grand Lodge of the Freemasons of Maryland, conveniently located between Baltimore’s Inner Harbor and Mount Vernon, the city’s cultural center.

Restored and reopened in 2006, the Venue is a destination unto itself; original stained glass, parchment and fabric wallpaper, ornate wooden carvings, and multiple types of marble floors and columns are found throughout the space. It is truly a grand and unique meeting environment. Acting Maryland State Archivist Tim Baker will be the plenary speaker, and musician David Hildebrand of the Colonial Music Institute will perform and present a program on music from the War of 1812. This year we are pleased to feature two evening receptions. Thursday evening, Case[werks], a Baltimore-based manufacturer of furniture, lighting, and fixtures for exhibits of all kinds, will host attendees at their Baltimore showroom and gallery in the arts district of Station North. The main reception on Friday will be held at the George Peabody Library, a 19th-century “cathedral of books” featuring a stunning five-story atrium surrounded by stacks.
