1st International Workshop on Folk Music Analysis

The First International Workhop of Folk Music Analysis: Symbolic and Signal Processing, will take place in Athens, Greece, on the 19th and 20th of May, 2011. The Venue is the Old Univeristy of Athens, in the Old Town, just under the Acropolis.

The purpose of the event is to gather reseachers who work in the area of computational folk music analysis, using symbolic or singal processing methods, to present their work, discuss and exchange views on the topic.

There is no call for papers for this event; Speakers are invited to present their work. If you want to be invited to give a presentation, please send an email with a title and an abstract to the Workshop's organisers by the 15th of April 2011 at: fma.workshop@gmail.com

Presentations on all types of ethnic/folk music are welcome. We ask that all talks focus on specific musical styles(s) or region(s), which are made explicit in the title. In case the abstracts are more than the slots available, a selection will be made by the organising committee and the already confirmed speakers.

A selection of presenters will also be invited to submit a paper to the 2012 Special Issue of the Journal of Analytical Approaches to World Music, entitled "Computational Folk Music Analysis".

The event is organised jointly by the University of Athens and the University of Piraeus.
