3rd International Workshop on Folk Music Analysis
The 3rd International Workshop on Folk Music Analysis will take place in Amsterdam, Netherlands, June 6 and 7, 2013.
This workshop is an excellent opportunity to present and discuss ongoing research in the area of computational ethnomusicology. There are two important motivations. Firstly, recent advances in computer science, artificial intelligence, etc. have great potential to be employed for (ethno)musicology. This implies a more empiric approach to music studies. The current research in this area is only in its beginnings. Therefore, much attention should be paid to explore these methods and their relation to the research traditions of musicology. Secondly, most of the current research in music information retrieval is exclusively aimed at western music. Therefore, with this workshop we want to stimulate a broader focus that also includes non-western musics.
Authors are kindly invited to submit an extended abstract (max. 1000 words or 2 pages in 12 point font). Additional pages may be added for references. The extended abstracts will be peer reviewed. Authors of accepted abstracts have the opportunity to contribute a full paper. After the workshop, the peer-reviewed abstracts and the full papers will be published online. The language of the workshop is English. There is no limit on the number of abstracts that may be submitted by a single researcher, and abstracts do not need to be anonymized for blind review.
