UK: PhD studentship in semantic audio

Applications are invited for a PhD Studentship starting in September 2012 to undertake research in Semantic Audio. This is an important emerging research area in Sound and Music Computing, pioneering the technologies that underpin new user experiences of music, from the recording studio to the living room.

Effectively and efficiently retrieving information based on user needs is one of the most exciting areas in multimedia research. The Annual ACM International Conference on Multimedia Retrieval (ICMR) offers a great opportunity for exchanging leading-edge multimedia retrieval ideas among researchers, practitioners and other potential users of multimedia retrieval systems. This conference, puts together the long-lasting experience of former ACM CIVR and ACM MIR series, is set up to illuminate the state of the arts in multimedia (text, image, video and audio) retrieval.

Call for proposal: ELAG 2012 Conference 16-18 May 2012, Palma de Mallorca, Spain

Elag 2012 will be hosted by the Universitat de les Illes Balears (www.uib.es) in Palma de Mall orca, Spain.

The ELAG 2012 conference welcomes proposals for presentations, workshops and preconference "hands-on" boot camps that address how new technologies are extending the reach of the library and allowing library services to be provided everywhere library users are found.
