The 41st edition of The Reel Thing technical symposium will take place in Los Angeles over the course of three days, August 24 - 26, 2017, including an opening night reception and screening on August 24. The event will take place at the Linwood Dunn Theater in the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences’ Pickford Center for Motion Picture Study, 1313 Vine St., in Hollywood.

GRANT OPPORTUNITY REMINDER: Funding for Digitization of At Risk Audiovisual Recordings
The Council on Library and Information Resources (CLIR) will begin accepting applications on June 1, 2017 for the second call of the 'Recordings at Risk' program, a national re-granting program administered by CLIR to support the preservation of rare and unique recordings of high scholarly value in the United States. Generously funded by The Andrew W. Mellon Foundation the program will award a total of $2.15 Million in three open competitions in 2017-2018.

CBC/Radio-Canada have announced the mass digitization of the public broadcaster’s audiovisual archive collection.
CBC will digitise 720,000 physical media assets (audio and video) while Radio-Canada will digitise more than 650,000 assets that include audio, video and film.
Learn how to arrange and describe archival sound, video, and film materials found in mixed-media archival collections. In the morning you'll focus on understanding archival audiovisual media with sections on format identification, evaluating content, and assessing institutional capacity for providing access for researchers.
