Guidelines for research grants for IASA members
1. The aim of IASA shall be to encourage members to carry out research projects by supporting the project costs. The level of the financial support of IASA will be determined by the Executive Board individually on a case to case basis.
2. IASA will support a research project only if there is evidence that the results are within the scope of IASA's objectives.
3. Applications must be sent in writing (by letter, fax or e-mail) to the Secretary-General in response to the announcement of research grants which are published in the IASA Information Bulletin.
4. An application for a research grant must contain a description of the project, in particular
- the scope;
- the aims and purposes;
- the schedule;
- clear statement of outcomes and deliverables;
- project costs in US$, broken down into expenses;
- the required amount of grant in US$;
- an explanation why the project costs cannot be borne by the applicant alone;
- declaration of any applications to other funding bodies in respect of the same project.
5. Depending on the scope and the overall duration of a research project, the applicant shall arrange appropriately defined project phases. The successful end of each phase shall be notified to IASA by an interim report, the successful end of the project by a final report.
6. The Secretary-General will check all applications received by the appointed deadline and will submit them to the Executive Board at its next Board meeting for discussion and approval.
7. Applicants will be informed as soon as possible of the result after the Executive Board's decision has been reached.
8. IASA will grant a research project on the basis of a written agreement signed by the Secretary-General for the Association.
9. The terms of payment will be included in the written agreement in the context of the available budget as set by the Executive Board.
10. IASA will not pay research grants in advance of a project. The method of payment shall be specified in the application including to whom monies shall be paid and how payment will be made.
