Landmark AV preservation document revised and republished

IASA releases revised edition of The Safeguarding of the Audiovisual Heritage: Ethics, Principles and Preservation Strategy (IASA-TC 03)

The Landmark publication The Safeguarding of the Audiovisual Heritage: Ethics, Principles and Preservation Strategy (IASA-TC 03) has been republished, with extensive revisions.

First published in 1997 and often known simply by its publication number IASA-TC 03, it has long been acknowledged internationally as a core statement of the audiovisual preservation community. For anyone concerned with the care of audiovisual heritage, familiarity with IASA-TC 03 is widely considered essential.

The 4th edition, written and reviewed by the Technical Committee of the International Association of Sound and Audiovisual Archives (IASA), is extensively revised, encompassing the proliferation of born-digital heritage and for the first time, moving image preservation.

Toby Seay, IASA’s current President, added “IASA-TC-03 establishes the basis for any preservation program that contains sound and audiovisual materials. This living document in its most recent revision is vital to all cultural heritage organizations and preservation professionals.”

IASA-TC 03 is freely available on the IASA website: www.iasa-web.org/tc03/ethics-principles-preservation-strategy
